But no matter how logical the coalition finds this choice, there are many critical voices in the opposition. “If you have three competent, experienced, good aldermen who work together and also have open communication with the council, then a fourth alderman is not necessary,” says party chairman Marcel Sturkenboom of the largest opposition party, GroenLinks-PvdA. “Four aldermen also have influence on the civil service organisation. That will undoubtedly require more manpower.”
