Border security teams intervened deadly hard on immigrants who wanted to cross from Morocco to the Spanish-controlled North African city of Melilla.
In the footage released by the Moroccan Human Rights Association (AMDH), it is seen that the security forces hit the immigrants with batons in the border area near Melilla, and many immigrants lie motionless on the ground, bleeding.
Moroccan authorities announced that 18 migrants died, while AMDH representatives said at least 29 were killed.
Moroccan and Spanish authorities stated that about 2,000 undocumented immigrants flocked to the border, of which about 100 crossed the border.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez claimed that “human smuggling mafias” were responsible for the influx of thousands of immigrants to the border.
