A reporter told Leo Carlsson about a conversation she had with Sidney Crosby.
Then the Swedish super talent was in less shock.
– He didn’t believe me, says the reporter.
The hockey world had expected the Anaheim Ducks to select Adam Fantilli with their second pick in this summer’s NHL draft. It was completely obvious that Connor Bedard would be chosen first, and on many lists Leo Carlsson was third. But the Ducks went up on stage and chose the Swede ahead of Fantilli.
Crosby’s words about Leo Carlsson
Leo Carlsson was a smash hit in the SHL last season and this spring became the youngest Tre Kronor player ever in the WC. Carlsson had some problems with injuries during the opening of the season, but scored immediately in his NHL debut and in five games has been recorded for three points. He has also gained a lot of trust in the form of ice time, and has been highly praised by both supporters and coaches.
Earlier this week, he also reached another milestone, in the form of an awesome memory to say the least that he will carry with him for the rest of his life. Leo Carlsson has always had Sidney Crosby as his big idol, and this week Carlsson got to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins icon for the first time. Before the match, reporter Aly Lozoff interviewed Crosby, and then couldn’t help but ask him about the Swede.
– I asked him if he had any advice to give to Leo Carlsson, says Lozoff in the broadcast.
“You are joking!”
Sidney Crosby then came with the most powerful tribute to the young Swede.
– He said he had no advice to give. He said he had seen clips of Leo and he already seems ready and very mature in his game. He also said that he felt a little old when he heard that he was Leo’s idol, but that it was cool, she says further.
Such a tribute would have made anyone weak in the knees, and so did Leo Carlsson. When the young Swede heard about Crosby’s words, he did not believe it was true.
– He didn’t believe me! He asked if I was joking! He said he would try to focus on the match and let it sink in afterwards, she says.
