Leo Borg is eliminated from the Nordea Open.
But the Swede is still happy about the first victory of his life on the ATP tour – and is definitely not breaking down.
– This shows that I can play good tennis, says the 20-year-old to Aftonbladet.
The great talent Leo Borg, 20, was not an immediate favorite in the first round of the Nordea Open. There, he faced rock-hard opposition directly in the form of Elias Ymer. But Borg offered a huge shock when he took the first victory of his career on the ATP tour, and sent Ymer out of the tournament.
Big milestone
It was not exactly easier opposition that awaited in the second round of the tournament, in the form of 113-ranked Federico Coria. However, Borg went in with confidence, and really offered a match in the first round. But Coria turned around and took the first set, and then created a big gap in the second.
The second set was severely delayed by a rainstorm, and after that Borg could never respond. Coria won the match, Borg has finished playing – but he can still take a huge milestone with him. Already at the age of 20, he has now won his first victory in an ATP competition, and although he fell short against the experienced Argentinian Coria, he has shown that he can measure up to players with a much higher ranking than himself.

Borg’s fine words
And afterwards he was satisfied with the particular support he felt during the competition in Båstad.
– The audience was fantastic, I received very nice support. An extra thank you to those who stayed until after the rain break, it meant a lot. I take my first ATP victory and played very good tennis. So I must be satisfied with the week, but at the same time not, he tells Aftonbladet.
Borg believes that he now feels that he can and wants more, and that his self-confidence has taken a major upward swing.
– I want more and I can do more. But I take a lot of positive things with me. This was a boost.
