Lennart Sacrédeus (KD) withdraws his parliamentary candidacy

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Sacrédeus was criticized by, among others, the party’s district chairman Elin Åhman after a paragraph about abortion in the flyer sent out to households in Dalarna attracted attention.

“More can be done in the form of support efforts and adoptions to welcome the unborn child to life,” writes Sacrédeus and calls abortion “medically assisted suicide.”

The Christian Democrats in Dalarna commented on the whole thing in a written message that DN has seen:

“We are taking this seriously. When you are a representative, you represent the party’s policy and nothing else. The Christian Democrats stand behind Swedish abortion legislation and have had the same stance on the issue for decades. As a candidate for the Christian Democrats, you have to follow our election manifesto and guidelines for personal election campaign. These leaflets have not been produced or anchored accordingly”.

Now Lennart Sacrédeus announces that he is no longer a candidate for the Riksdag, which Aftonbladet was the first to report. In a press release he writes:

I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for the Riksdag for the Christian Democrats, but remain as the first name in the municipal election in Mora.

The media attention that the personal election campaign for the Riksdag has received has taken the focus away from other Christian Democratic politics, this through political opponents in a misleading way using it to sow doubts about the party I worked in and served for 38 years.

I deeply regret that.
