They were born in August and have already taken Berlin by storm. But only now have the two panda cubs been named – Leni and Lotti, or in Chinese Meng Hao and Meng Tian.
The German names are a tribute to Berlin-born film and music star Marlene Dietrich and the Charlottenburg district in central Berlin, while the Chinese ones mean Beautiful Dreams and Sweet Dreams respectively.
Those who want to see the panda cubs currently only have one hour per day, when one of them is shown. Only late in January will they be able to be seen together with mother Meng Meng.
The twins are the second pair of panda cubs born in Germany, after their siblings Pit and Paule, who were born in 2019 and now live in China.
