He has been rumored to Leksand.
Now Thomas Johansson answers the information about NHL veteran Rocco Grimaldi.
And it might not be what fans had hoped for.
There was a loss in the SHL premiere for Leksand. It wasn’t exactly the easiest premiere, as the reigning champions Färjestad were waiting on the away pitch, but it wasn’t just the result, 1-3, that worried Leksand. During the spring and summer, they lost several key players and talents to North America in particular, and it became especially clear during the premiere.
Connected with star
They only fielded eleven forwards in the squad, and during parts of the match they were forced to play with defender Alexander Lundqvist as a forward. They have two more forwards, so a total of 13, on contract right now – as they are still waiting for star Marek Hrivik. At the same time, the great talent Emil Heineman remains in North America to try to break into the Montreal Canadiens.
Should Heineman break into the world’s best league, Leksand ends up in a reasonably precarious position. You will then have to go forward hunting, and in the last week there have been many rumors about Rocco Grimaldi, a 29-year-old American who last season played seven games for the Nashville Predators. In total, there have been over 200 games in the NHL during his career, and he is reportedly interested in playing in the SHL.
– It is clear there are connections, says Thomas Johansson, general manager in Leksand, to Hockeypuls.
But all Leksands fans can stop dreaming about Grimaldi’s signature. Leksand now confirms that they will not go to sign the American, as he simply does not fit in.
– It is not a player profile that we are looking for and is not one we have an eye on. I have no plans for him to be Heineman’s replacement, says “Tjomme”.
Leksand will probably not sign a forward until they know what happens with Emil Heineman, says Thomas Johansson.
– Should we receive confirmation that he will remain in North America, we will have to start pulling the strings with the players that we have control over. It’s not like we’re sitting idly by. But at the same time, there is not a whole bunch of players to choose from, says Johansson.
