Among other things, he has won Olympic gold and SM gold.
Now Daniel Tjärnqvist is ready for a role in Leksand.
– It will be great fun, he says.
Daniel Tjärnqvist has a track record that few players can match. He has won Olympic gold with Three Crowns in 2006, two World Cup silvers and has six seasons in the world’s best hockey league to his credit.
Moving to Leksand
The well-traveled defender retired after the 2014/15 season after a string of seasons in the German league. Since then, Daniel Tjärnqvist has continued with hockey, and worked with young people mainly in the Stockholm region.
Among other things, he has been involved in Lidingö’s J18 team, was the European-responsible fitness coach for Columbus Blue Jackets and last season was a development coach in Djurgården’s hockey gymnasium.
It is an assignment he has now left, choosing to move to Dalarna and Leksand.
– We wanted a little new adventure, so we are moving from Stockholm to a little more nature. It was a decision from the whole family that we thought was a good fit now, says Tjärnqvist to DT.
“Let’s see if there will be anything more”
The golden hero from 2006 contacted Leksands IF, and it all ended with him getting a role as assistant coach in the club’s U16 team.
– We’ll move up and then we’ll see what happens. I’m taking U16 now as a small start, then we’ll see if there’s anything more. I don’t really know which track I’m on yet. We really just move up and then we’ll see what the next step is, he says.
Thomas Johansson, Leksand’s sporting director, has a good grasp of Tjärnqvist. They played together for a few seasons in Djurgården IF – and are looking forward to Tjärnqvist’s new role in Leksand.
– Fun with Daniel. He got in touch and told me that the family was moving to Leksand and asked about the possibility of helping in the association, he says.
