Emil Heineman can stay in Leksand next season.
If he does not take a place in the Montreal Candiens, he will probably return to Dalarna.
– I have high hopes, says sports director Thomas Johansson.
The forward was already drafted two seasons ago by Florida. But after a minor transfer carousel last spring, it was clear that Heineman had been traded to the classic organization Montreal.
The big breakthrough
The 20-year-old had his best season last competition year and was recorded for 16 points, 11+5, in 36 games. After the successful season, Emil Heineman will go over to North America at the beginning of September and try to take a place in Montreal’s team next season.
The forward, who is currently training with Leksand, can however return to the dala club. Should Montreal not consider him ready for NHL play, there is a good chance he will return to Leksand.
– We have great hope for Emil. He’s going over rookie camp and regular training camp, but there’s basically an NHL deal that has a “return policy” if he doesn’t take a spot in Montreal. I have high hopes that we will have Emil in Leksand for another season, says Thomas Johansson to Expressen.
Playing with Leksand
Emil Heineman will also play training matches with Leksand during August. As early as Tuesday evening, he will take a place in the team that takes on Mora in the derby.
– We have received the OK from Montreal that he can play matches with us. He goes over around 11 September, so he has time to play almost all of our training matches, says Johansson.
The sports director further says that it is more likely that Emil Heineman will return to Leksand, rather than play in the AHL, if he does not take a place in Montreal.
