Legislative elections: in Val-d’Oise, the majority caught in a pinch

Legislative elections in Val dOise the majority caught in a pinch

It is a constituency fraught with issues, the fourth in Val-d’Oise: for the first time during an election, voters placed the National Rally in the lead during the European elections. A few days before the early legislative elections, the campaign is in full swing and the three candidates leading in the polls are on the ground every day to convince voters.

Caught between the union of the right and the union of the left, Naïma Moutchou, outgoing deputy in the 4th constituency of Val-d’Oise, is struggling to convince. Vice-president of the National Assembly from 2022 to June 2024, she is running this time under the banner of Horizons, the party of Édouard Philippe, an ally of the majority.

The configuration in the constituency could install a relatively uncertain triangular : “ I don’t do calculations in politics, I trust people. What is certain is that I will do my best to convince people..” The MP continues: “ We are in a corner, in Franconville, where we generally have a higher rate of abstention in elections, whatever they may be, and where we have a fairly strong LFI potential and a fairly strong RN. So, this is where the part is the hardest for me. »

An embarrassing association with Emmanuel Macron

The time when Édouard Philippe’s party and its deputies unconditionally supported Emmanuel Macron is now long gone. For Naïma Moutchou, the label of the majority is embarrassing this time: “ First, there is the image of the President of the Republic which still arouses rejection on the part of the population. I am often spoken to about little phrases for example. I am not in the presidential majority, I am on the sidelines. »

Despite differences, the RN-Ciotti alliance

The former boss of the Republicans of Val-d’Oise, Sébastien Meurant, supported both by the RN and by Eric Ciotti, presents herself against Naïma Moutchou. The constituency will therefore be one of the laboratories to see if the strategy of uniting the rights is paying off. Excluded from the Republicans for his support for Éric Zemmour during the 2022 presidential election, he has just resumed his party card after the agreement between Éric Ciotti and Jordan Bardella.

If Gaullism – I claim this lineage – is the independence of France and it is the metro at 6 p.m., which Malraux spoke of, we must face things. Today, the latest elections have shown that the political movement which most embodies the metro at 6 p.m., which most defends the French people, is the RN. »

Sébastien Meurant recognizes differences with the RN, but pleads for union: So I have differences with the RN, particularly on everything economic, but these differences are not fundamental and politics is about being able to adapt to circumstances. »

A door-to-door campaign favorable to the New Popular Front?

The New Popular Front candidate, Karine Lacouture, is returning to the campaign to hope to win her first mandate. Eliminated in the second round in 2022, against Naïma Moutchou, this time, she is feeling things well. Moreover, the reception on the ground during door-to-door visits is rather favorable: “ There are people who were quite well engaged on the left and who were a little dormant. I receive about two to three offers of help per day. »

The outcome of the first round next Sunday in the constituency looks very uncertain. A result which will also depend on electoral mobilization.
