Legion rings in new year with annual tradition The Branch 642 Royal Canadian Legion Pipe Band helped kick off the New Year’s Day levee, or stand-to, on Monday. The long-standing military tradition featured the ceremonial “sweetening of the punch,” with various regiments and guests bringing well wishes, as well as a bottle of liquor to pour into the mix.
