Tina Turner has died after a long illness, the star’s spokesperson confirms to Sky News.

The singer has died after a long illness at her home outside Zurich in Switzerland. The legendary singer was 83 years old.

“A music legend and role model”

“Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock’n Roll died peacefully today, aged 83, after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world has lost a music legend and role model,” says her spokesperson in a statement.

Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock in the United States. In the 1960s and 1970s, she hit it big with her then-husband Ike Turner.

She became world famous as a solo artist with hit songs such as “What’s love got to do with it” and “The best”.

“Meaned incredibly much”

When entertainment journalist Ronny Svensson was contacted by the news, he was saddened.

– It is incredibly sad, he says.

Svensson underlines Turner’s importance to the music world.

– Tina Turner has meant an incredible amount to the African-American movement. Moreover, as a woman, she was one of those who really took her place.

The journalist believes that she stepped into the world of white musicians and took her place.

– She stood at the front, wide-legged, and said “here I am”. You get goosebumps.
