Anyone who doesn’t know better might think that cinematic dream dancers David Lynch (Wild at Heart, Mulholland Drive) has been resting on his honorary Oscar for five years. After all, he hasn’t released a new project since 2017’s brilliant series revival Twin Peaks: The Return. But that’s only half true. And no, we don’t mean his appearance as filmmaker John Ford in Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical film The Fablemans.
What David Lynch dreams of on the Internet: The master director as a YouTuber
At the time, Lynch had published web series on his website, which has now been taken offline. For example, the crude cartoon DumbLand or the surreal rabbit sitcom Rabbits, which was later integrated into his film Inland Empire. But there are also all sorts of bizarre finds to discover on YouTube in the so-called DAVID LYNCH THEATER. Among other things, his now iconic one Weather reportwhich he regularly shouted into the camera from his home in Los Angeles for years (over 900 videos), or drawing a daily lucky number (over 800 videos).
His YouTube series was a little more involved What Is David Lynch Working On Today?in which the director, who was always hands-on on set, presented his latest handicrafts, as well as a series of music videos that he made for his musical muse Chrysta Bell. A few months ago, Lynch even hilariously dubbed parts of old films to promote her new album.
And before Lost Media experts get involved to start looking: Much of the content from the old website is also there on the Lynchian YouTube channel to be found. Including the Rabbits series, various interviews and some short films. A real treasure trove for die-hard David Lynch fans.

Nightmare Netflix: How the streaming service prevented two David Lynch projects
After the unexpected return of Twin Peaks with The Return, rumors began to swirl a David Lynch project under the Netflix umbrella loud. The rumored (working) title was Unrecorded Night or Wisteria. At the same time, a suspicious number of Twin Peaks stars posted pictures of said wisteria plants, leading fans to speculate that the streamer would become home to an ultra-secret Season 4. However, that was already in 2021 and after that the project became quiet.
Just this year, Lynch’s production partner Sabrina Sutherland clarified the mystery as part of a Reddit AMA (via World of Reel): Unrecorded Night was a 13-part Netflix serieswhich had nothing to do with Twin Peaks and was canceled shortly before filming began during the coronavirus pandemic.
Whether the project could be resumed now that David Lynch has developed pulmonary emphysema after 70 years of smoking remains questionable. But according to a recent People interview, he would be open to directing from home.
But that’s not all: Lynch had another project in the pipeline that Netflix rejected. This is an animated film called, which has been in the works for decades Snootworldwhich the filmmaker developed with author Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands). The fantasy adventure is about a so-called snoot who gets lost in the carpet during an initiation ritual.
David Lynch will be 79 years old in January 2025. Let’s hope he makes it to then and beyond. And that his wonderfully strange dreams will remain with us for a while.
