Retired astronaut William Anders, who took a legendary picture of Earth while orbiting the moon, has died aged 90 after the plane he was flying crashed.
The photo was taken by Anders as part of the Apollo 8 crew – where he, together with Frank Borman and Jim Lovell, became the first humans to leave the immediate vicinity of Earth in 1968.
No one else was on board the plane when it crashed in Washington state on Friday.
