Sylvester Stallone is one of the greatest action stars in film history. He has held this status for many years painstakingly built. One series in particular accompanied him: Rambo. Rambo, played by Stallone, is a soldier who served in the Vietnam War. As he returns home, he goes in search of the last survivor of his unit. Gradually, the horror of the war in the USA catches up with him and more bloodshed follows.

The first Rambo film is by far the best, which is because the film strikes a particularly good balance between brutal action and the Dealing with the trauma of war finds. Here Stallone plays a lost man who tries in vain to escape the violence around him, but cannot find a way out.

In the sequels Rambo ends up in various theaters of war. In the second part he leads a secret mission in the Vietnamese jungle. He is then sent to Afghanistan and Thailand before retiring to a ranch in the US state of Arizona and going to war against a Mexican cartel.

In addition to the original, only parts 2 and 4 are really worth seeing. Part 2 scores with 1980s banging action from George P. Cosmatos (The City Cobra). Part 4 is so dark and depraved that it’s even by Rambo standards seems a bit more abysmal. You can safely skip parts 3 and 5.
