Leeroy quits YouTube, settles accounts with Rezo and MontanaBlack

The YouTuber Leeroy Matata (26) has in a video from November 28th. announced the end of his career after he came under criticism. He admits his own mistakes, but also makes accusations against Rezo and especially against the Twitch streamer MontanaBlack. He accuses him of presenting himself as a moral authority, but MontanaBlack is lazy, stupid and has driven viewers to ruin and suicide.

This is the situation:

  • The YouTuber Leeroy has 2.43 million subscribers on YouTube and has long been part of the public legal project “Funk”.
  • On his channel “Leeroy wants to know” he has been dealing with serious topics since 2018. In this format he met and interviewed people with unusual fates. He also staged confrontations between people with extreme views, including criminals and victims.
  • Now he has announced the end of his career. He no longer wants to produce YouTube videos and withdraw from social media. He cites increased public pressure as the reason.
  • MontanaBlack falls out with Mod – BigMac wants money, complains: “9 years was thrown away”

Strong criticism of Leeroy from other YouTubers

What was the criticism of him? In recent months, Leeroy has come under heavy criticism from other YouTubers for some videos and statements:

  • He is said to have misrepresented the story of a young man who had his legs lengthened. He is said to have shown that the man could walk poorly. To illustrate this, images were shown immediately after surgery. The man can now walk much better. He felt he was misrepresented in the post.
  • Leeroy also conducted an interview with the last survivor of the Hitler assassination attempt. It was criticized that the survivor used the opportunity to falsify history and trivialize the Holocaust. Leeroy was accused of failing to intervene.
  • In addition, Leeroy is said to have given a zoophile a platform in confrontational formats, which made it seem as if the sexual abuse of animals was a controversial opinion that one could have and not a crime.
  • Critical videos about Leeroy’s content receive high numbers of views on YouTube.

Leeroy says: He is not a journalist, but a YouTuber

That’s what Leeroy says now: In the YouTube video, Leeroy admitted his own mistakes. So he made the mistake of accepting the label “journalist” that was applied to him from outside. This also placed demands on him that he could not fulfill.

He is not a journalist, but makes YouTube videos to entertain and bring topics to the public.

He learned from a few mistakes: After a format with an AFD politician, he realized that he wasn’t allowed to invite politicians because they always use the opportunity to advertise themselves. After the criticism of this video, he no longer invited politicians.

In the “rough cut” of the criticized video, he also strongly contradicted the AFD man, but this was subsequently deleted from the video in order not to appear too biased. People should be persuaded by the stronger arguments. He regretted that afterwards.

“That was a mistake. I can understand why many of me would have wanted a clear edge in a video like this.”

Nevertheless, he feels that some YouTubers have unfairly criticized and misrepresented him. His work, which often brought about good things, is only reduced to the negative.

“You can destroy the CDU and not google it for 5 minutes?”

This is what he says against Rezo: Leeroy seems particularly disappointed with Rezo. They met once and Rezo expressed his appreciation to Leeroy.

Now Leeroy is accusing Rezo of saying to an audience of millions that Leeroy was promoting gambling. He wholeheartedly rejects gambling. Rezo did not know the context of a situation, drew wrong conclusions and made accusations live:

“In the end, Rezo casually tells millions of people that I do casino and gambling advertising. And the accusation that he simply makes makes me extremely disappointed because I have already met so many people affected by gambling addiction.”

Leeroy asks: Rezo could destroy the entire CDU, but 5 minutes of research on this topic or a quick phone call are not possible?

He accuses the YouTuber: Rezo has no interest in improving or changing Leeroy’s content. He was only interested in criticizing, making a name for himself and making money with it.

    MontanaBlack.

This is what Leeroy says against MontanaBlack: With MontanaBlack, Leeroy has a special bone to pick.

He is annoyed by the criticism from MontanaBlack, who commented on the video of the zoophile abusing dogs.

“You have to think about it, you’re calling me an accomplice to this kind of sick shit in front of an audience of millions. That’s not in my head.”

MontanaBlack watched and reacted to videos from YouTubers about Leeroy on Twitch.

MontanaBlack was lazy – he didn’t watch the video himself, he just saw a reaction. Therefore he would spread a lot of misinformation.

In addition, MontanaBlack is “stupid” for believing that Forbes’ “30 under 30 list” is about representing the richest people under 30, although with 3 seconds of Google he could have found out that it’s not about that, but about influential people.

Leeroy also accuses MontanaBlack of wildly speculating about possible reasons instead of simply asking him why a statement only comes after 2 weeks.

The YouTubers are annoyed that MontanaBlack can reach so many people with his reach, who then believe things that turn out to be wrong and that Leeroy cannot correct with his smaller reach.

MontanaBlack earned millions by driving others into gambling addictions

But Leeroy finds it particularly cheeky that MontanaBlack judges him morally. He is in no position to do that. MontanaBlack is said to have earned millions of euros by driving others into gambling addiction and thus suicide.

“Instead of philosophizing on streams about what I might earn, you should estimate how many people you, dear Monte, have driven into gambling addiction as a casino junkie. How many families have been destroyed by your streams and how many people have taken their lives due to addiction and the resulting helplessness.”

Leeroy says he knows that casino streamers are financially affected by the loss of their viewers.

“How disgusting can you be to do this for years?”

Does MontanaBlack gamble? MontanaBlack has not broadcast gambling on Twitch for many years. Apparently there are legal reasons for this. However, he continued to be criticized for opening loot boxes in games like FIFA or CS:GO. That was a topic at “ZDF Magazin Royal.”

MontanaBlack still seems to have a mixed opinion on gambling. In 2022 he explained why his gambling on Twitch was okay, but today’s gambling by other streamers is no longer okay.

The streamer also hinted at moving away from Germany to a country where he would pay less taxes and could gamble again:
