The president of Lebanon promises to punish those who have attacked a vehicle belonging to the UN Peace Peace forces in the country.

A UN commander has been injured.

Lebanese authorities have called for a crisis meeting on Saturday, following the attack on the convoy that injured the UN forces assistant commander. President Joseph Aoun condemns what happened and promises to punish the perpetrators, according to a post on X.

“The security forces will not look easily at the person trying to disrupt stability and peace,” it says.

It was on Friday that the car, which belonged to the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was ignited. The vehicle was clearly marked with the UN logo.

The road where the car was burned, between central Beirut and the country’s international airport, has been blocked for two days by supporters of the Iran -backed Shiamilis Hezbollah. They protest against two Iranian aircraft not being allowed to land.

It is not entirely ensured how the car caught fire. Unifil has demanded an immediate investigation of what happened.
