Leaker says it’s almost done, comparing it to Overwatch and Fallout 76

Beef is the best Netflix series of the year so

The game developer Blizzard is working on a new survival game in a new universe. Little is known about it so far, but a journalist from the Xbox environment has now revealed some details, including the name: It could be called “Odyssey”.

Jez Corden has made a name for himself as a leaker in recent years. He makes forecasts for release dates and is often spot on. However, he says he also has opportunities to see early gameplay on some titles, including Blizzard’s new survival game.

Here’s what we know for sure about the game so far. Be warned, it’s not much. Due to the leak from Corden, however, some information has now been added, which we list for you here.

Please keep in mind: These are unconfirmed leaks. Things change in the course of development or decisions are made that make such information worthless before release. Take the new information with a certain skepticism.

The survival genre is trending. This was shown not least by the release of Sons of the Forest, which brought the Steam servers to their knees. More about the title in the video:

What new information is there? The information comes from a podcast with leaker and journalist Jez Corden (via youtube.com). For four and a half hours, two likeable nerds talk about Xbox, games and Microsoft’s takeover of Activision-Blizzard, among other things.

Then the new Blizzard game comes up. A survival game about which not too much is known so far. But Corden unpacks some exciting info, and he even claims to have seen very early gameplay a while ago:

  • The name of the game is “Odyssey”
  • Corden is 90% sure, but it could also be a code name
  • It’s a multi-platform title
  • The game is likely coming to PC, Xbox, PlayStation and maybe even Switch
  • Shortly before completion
  • Not a graphic high-flyer
  • The graphics are more “cartoonish”, intended to remind you of Overwatch
  • Structure reminds Corden of Fallout 76
  • Co-op PvE world, set up your own shops, classic survival mechanics
  • Corden is still discussing the possibility of the title coming to PlayStation and Switch as well. Due to the possible takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, he is no longer so sure whether “Odyssey” will actually be released outside of PC and Xbox.

When is the Odyssey coming out? At the moment one can only speculate. Even if the game is already well advanced or even almost finished, the release of Diablo 4 – another Blizzard game that many fans of the studio are waiting for in early June – is yet to come.

Blizzard’s new game is likely to be released at a respectful distance from the big action RPG, possibly for Christmas sales at the end of 2023. But we’ll have to wait for new information here for the time being.

By the way, MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is a Blizzard and Survival fan. He thinks “Odyssey” could be just that: A survival game is now Blizzard’s only right decision.
