On the official Riot Games blog, the developers of League of Legends talked about “Swarm, Arena, and the value of game modes.” Due to the enormous success of the new game variants, there will be more experiments in the future.
What is the deal with swarm and arena? A new PvE mode called Swarm recently came to the League of Legends servers. Here, up to four players fight against hordes of enemies in the style of Vampire Survivors.
Last year, however, LoL fans were able to plunge into the arena for the first time to survive 2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2 battles. MeinMMO editor Niko couldn’t get enough of the fun mode.

Success that sets a precedent
What conclusion do the devs draw? In the blog post from July 24, 2024 (via riotgames.com), the developers evaluate the introduction of the two new modes:
In the future, Riot Games wants to focus even more on developing game modes and experiment more often to “push the boundaries of what it means to have fun in the League ecosystem.” But they always want to deliver exactly “what players expect from a League experience.”
However, this new strategy from Riot Games does not end with League of Legends. Other games such as Wild Rift and Teamfight Tactics have also successfully released new game modes in the recent past, such as Choncc’s Treasure and Pingu’s Party.
What do you think of Riot Games’ current approach? Let us know in the comments! By the way, it wasn’t just the developers of League of Legends who had the idea for a swarm mode in the style of Vampire Survivors: Same name, same genre: TemTem accidentally takes on League of Legends, but takes it with humor.
