In the courtyard of the town hall of the fourth arrondissement of Pointe-Noire, officials and other guests took their places under white tents for the honey delivery ceremony.

In the shade of a palm tree, workers from the “Ya Diyi” Cooperative placed industrial jars of honey on tables. Thanks to the contribution from China, they will now process at least 13 tonnes of honey per month, compared to 2 tonnes produced each year since 2019.

The ambition is to diversify our economy, explains Juste Justin Goma Gabou, the promoter of the cooperative. We must not just stay around oil which is something that will run out one day. But, honey cannot run out. Unless we noticed that day that all the trees in the world died out “.

The donation is worth 45 million CFA francs (65,000 euros). Chinese Ambassador to Congo Li Yan represents her country for this ceremony. This is one of its first actions since moving to the country in 2023. “ Just like Congo, China also gives an important place to beekeeping. It has made an important contribution not only to job creation, but also to sustainable agricultural development and ecological balance. “.

With this Chinese support, Congo can hope to become an exporter of honey, particularly on the African continent.
