Malmö against Brynäs in a match that meant a lot to both teams, mostly to avoid the qualifiers.
After an impressive 4-0 victory against Färjestad two days ago, table jumbo Malmö wanted to put pressure on the Gävle team, who park in twelfth place. Nine points were the difference between the teams before Saturday’s game.
The first period was even with neither team managing to break the deadlock. The game went back and forth, Malmö shot but Brynäs stood up well.
The middle period was eventful.
The away team took the lead when Dmytro Timashov scored 1-0, played by Anton Rödin.
Malmö pushed for an equalizing goal, Pontus Westerholm had a great chance but missed the puck in some strange way.
In the final period, Malmö pushed for 1–1, and seven minutes in Carl-Johan Lerby scored the equalizer.
After that, the match was headed for extra time, but then Theo Lindstein stepped forward and scored 2–1, which was also the final result.
With the victory, Brynäs takes three much-needed points to avoid the negative qualifying game. For Malmö, most things point to a difficult and long spring.
In the other SHL matches, there were tennis figures between Timrå and Linköping. The first-mentioned team won rather easily with 6–2. Luleå is approaching the play-off line after a 5-2 victory against HV71.
