The director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has presented his new role-playing project for PS5, Xbox and PC with a wonderfully dark trailer. In The Blood of Dawnwalker you become a blood-sucking vampire.
What kind of game is this? The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action RPG with a dark fantasy setting and open world that aims to place a strong focus on the story experience. The role-playing game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S.
Behind the project is the studio Rebel Wolves, which was founded by former industry veterans who worked at CD Projekt Red, among others. The team includes, for example, the game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.
The ambitions are correspondingly great: The Blood of Dawnwalker is a AAA production that is intended to be the starting signal for an entire role-playing game saga. Here you can see the first cinematic trailer, which also includes a small gameplay teaser:
Bloodsuckers rise
What is the game about? The Blood of Dawnwalker is set in 14th century Europe. The country is rocked by bloody conflicts and plague. The population is decimated and severely weakened. Now vampires see their chance to step out of the shadows and rise to the top of the food chain.
Out of necessity, the protagonist Coen also turned into a Dawnwalker. However, you have the choice whether to fight for your humanity or hold back the new powers. However, the latter could put your family’s life at risk. You only have 30 days and nights to save them or take revenge.
You fight against humans, vampires and monsters. At the same time, there may also be valuable allies among them. Who you meet, what skills are available to you and what storylines you can follow should depend heavily on the time of day.
By the way, the time pressure shouldn’t just be cosmetic. If you want to experience all the side scenes apart from the main story, you have to play through The Blood of Dawnwalker several times. There is no time for anything in the 30 days. A more detailed gameplay presentation should follow in summer 2025. There is no release date yet.
While Konrad Tomaszkiewicz is working on The Blood of Dawnwalker with his new team, his old employer’s focus is, among other things, on The Witcher 4. The developers want to stay true to the lore of the predecessors – someone who has to know will take care of that
