Layth, 14, was found murdered – lawyer Ivo reports to the municipality

It is the end of July and Layth’s father is reached by pictures that have spread on social media. They depict his son, bound and strangled.

Three weeks after the disappearance, on August 18, Layth is found dead in a green area in Upplands Bro.

Earlier, another 14-year-old boy was found dead in a wooded area in Nynäshamn, and the police see a connection between the events. One of the police’s theories is that the boys were murdered because they did not carry out assignments for a criminal network, according to SVT’s information.

Taken care of in 2021

Layth was taken into care under the Act on care of young people, LVU, 2021 due to deficiencies in care. He was relocated several times and at the time of his disappearance was living in a family home in Nyköping, which DN has previously told if.

According to the father’s lawyer, Cafer Demirok, there were flaws in the family home.

– The social service has seriously failed to supervise Layth. We will report this to Ivo in the near future, he says.

A complicating factor in Layth’s situation was that both parents moved back to Iraq while he was deployed, which reportedly affected his well-being. It is unclear exactly why the family left Sweden.

Wasn’t at school

The shortcomings that the lawyer refers to are, among other things, the fact that Layth had not been at school for a long time, which was pointed out in reports of concern.

– Layth had no schooling at all for basically a whole year. That should have been extremely alarming information. If a family home does not manage to get a child to school in a year’s time, they should, in my opinion, relocate the child, says Cafer Demirok.

Ulla Salmela Trosell, head of the children and youth department in Linköping municipality, says they have an ongoing internal investigation into the case.

– Based on the fact that it was such a tragic outcome, we want to review whether we failed in any way, she says.
