Russia says visas have been issued to the country’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and members of his delegation to attend the UN General Assembly’s annual summit in New York later in September.
Moscow had earlier expressed concern that the US had not issued visas to the 56 representatives of the Russian delegation ahead of the September 20-26 summit.
The United States must not prevent representatives from member states from traveling to the UN headquarters, despite a visa freeze imposed on high-ranking Russian officials due to the war in Ukraine.
“Visas were delivered today to Lavrov and a number of the people who will accompany him,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, according to Russian news agencies.
It is not specified how many visas have been delivered and the Russian ministry also states that it expects the remaining visas to be issued.
