Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega mocked US sanctions when the two met in Ortega’s home country.

On Wednesday, the United States imposed sanctions on three judges in Nicaragua.

– We already have hundreds of officials under sanctions. “This is not causing concern or any problems anymore,” Ortega said.

Lavrov, who has a growing number of compatriots under US sanctions since the war of aggression against Ukraine began, agreed.

“People under sanctions in Russia take it as recognition of their effectiveness in defending Russian interests,” he said.

Echoing Russian warnings about Western expansionism, he said he expects Nicaragua to be a strong pillar in the new world that is taking shape.
