Laurentine Périlhou, macrame and her inexhaustible manual know-how

EPN in Eastern Ukraine People are very worried This will

Laurentine Périlhou develops creations with patience and passion, without needles, hooks or looms, only her hand shapes the knots that give birth to her creations. She perfectly masters the macrame technique. This succession of knots that gives rise to a form, whether in volume or flat. In her workshop in the heart of the Pyrenees in France, Laurentine Périlhou wishes to give her letters of nobility to this basic and universal practice.

I have always created since I was little. The creation is not only in the object or the finished product that I propose, it can be in the workshop with the wires, the coils, depending on their arrangement. This is also part of creation, of the creative process. It’s a way of life.

Laurentine Périlhou, artisan designer specializing in macrame.

It was the easiest to give my name to what I do. It was the most obvious because it’s me. »

Laurentine Périlhou grew up in the Pyrenees. In 2008, she traveled to South America: Chile, Bolivia, Peru. She comes back with a technique: macrame. From the basic techniques taught, she develops her own techniques and her universe. Laurentine Périlhou has deployed the know-how of macrame from jewelry to adornment and textile proposals for haute couture houses to interior decoration.

Natural materials rub shoulders with synthetic materials depending on the desired result.

I start with a story that I want to tell, I’ll draw and then I’ll imagine what elements I want to work in volume and with what type of knot, matter comes second. As long as the yarn is soft enough to be knotted, we have no limit to the raw material. Depending on the need and the desired results, we will use a wire diameter with a raw material, and if we combine all these possibilities, we have a multitude of proposals available to us. It really is endless. »

Haute Couture walls - Laurentine Perilhou

Macrame is an art in itself, an irreplaceable textile know-how according to Laurentine Perilhou. Her workshop is the only one in France to offer such a vast panel that she likes to transmit.

I did not go to school related to textile arts since I have an autodidact training. On the other hand, I receive trainees from these schools and I make sure to pass on to them what I have learned, what I have mastered today. I find it very beautiful to be able to transmit a know-how that is not taught in textile arts schools today. It has been relegated to outdated or hobby techniques, which is a shame. We have lost all the possibilities that there was with macrame. »
