Barely two weeks after the end of “The Traitors” on M6, Laurent Ruquier is going to take part in the game of betrayal on a rival channel…
It seems that Cluedo has become fashionable again. For several months, investigation and role-playing games have been all the rage on French television channels. M6 is just finishing the third season of “Les Traîtres”, its hit show, in which she starred Laurent Ruquier alongside his companion Hugo Manos, that other competing programs are preparing to land on the small screen. The experience has clearly given TF1 some ideas.
The first channel announces the launch on Friday, October 11 of a new game called “The Game Master” which will be presented by… Laurent Ruquier himself! And the principle strongly recalls that of “The Traitors”. Twelve celebrities are invited by a mysterious host, the “Game Master”, to a sumptuous residence cut off from the world. Through challenges and treasure hunts, they will have to try to discover the identity of this “Game Master”. But the task will be all the more difficult because among them hides an accomplice, charged with sabotaging their investigation and covering their tracks. The candidates will therefore also have to unmask this traitor.
TF1 has invited a diverse cast to participate in this French creation. It includes comedians like Max Boublil, Cartman, Jeanfi Janssens, or the essential Chantal Ladesou, actors like Frédéric Diefenthal, Arnaud Ducret, Sara Mortensen or Francis Perrin, but also the dancer from “Danse avec les stars” Elsa Bois and the host Valérie Damidot. They will try to win 100,000 euros for the associations they represent by leading the investigation to the end.
“Le Maître du jeu”, initially titled “Project H” before changing its name, is produced by Freemantle, a giant in the production of shows like “L’amour est dans le pré” or “La France a un incroyable talent”, two locomotives of M6 what’s more. The company is banking on the know-how and popularity of Laurent Ruquier to impose this new meeting and continue on the success of “Les Traîtres”. The infidelity of the host, who returned to entertainment this year after a short stint in news on BFMTV, will be noticed, even if Ruquier already seems to have chemistry with TF1, which had made him a luxury investigator in the last season of Mask Singer.
In the same Friday evening time slot, we will also have to count on another investigation game, this time on Canal+. The encrypted channel will indeed launch “Loups Garous”, an adaptation of the famous board game which is undoubtedly itself the starting point of “Traitors” and this wave of very similar shows. Thirteen expert players, including a spy, a mathematician or a mentalist, will try to unmask the werewolves hidden among the villagers. The show will be hosted by Panayotis Pascot and Fary, with Mister V in the role of the game master.
