“ The central committee decided that the president Laurent Gbagbo either the PPA-CI candidate for the 2025 election », We read in a press release published following the meeting which took place in the presence only of party executives. The former president of Ivory Coast “ agrees to be the PPA-CI candidate in the 2025 presidential election », continues the text. This choice of party must still be made official during a convention or congress whose date has not yet been set.
Last August, in front of the press, Laurent Gbagbo assured that being president was “not no longer an obsession “. “ I’m in politics because it’s the job I know, and I will do politics until I die “, he added.
This announcement comes two weeks after the president Alassane Ouattara granted a pardon to 51 people, including many activists and former military officials favorable to Laurent Gbagbo.
This opponent himself has benefited from a presidential pardon since August 2022, but he has been removed from the electoral lists. Laurent Gbagbo is in fact ineligible, because his civil rights were suspended following a conviction in the so-called “BCEAO” affair.
