On Sunday, the world was shocked when the water in Italy’s Venice’s main canal, the Canal Grande, took on a new color.
But now the mystery of the brilliant green water is solved.
Samples from the local environmental protection authority Arpav believe they found traces of the substance fluorescein – which is used to test waste water.
The results “do not show the presence of any toxic substances in the samples”, writes Arpav in a press release.
