A two-year-old boy miraculously survived a hippo attack near his home in Uganda.
CNN writes that Iga Paul was playing near the beach when the hippo struck.
The giant animal bit the boy and “swallowed almost half the body”, while a man threw stones at it, according to the police.
That made the hippo let go. The boy was taken to hospital where he received a rabies vaccine and was treated for his injuries. Now he is said to have fully recovered and has been allowed to leave the hospital.
According to an estimate, around 500 people in Africa die in hippo attacks every year, writes BBC.
The animals can weigh up to 1.5 tonnes.

Another Christmas mailbox. Photo: Fredrik Sandberg / TT
During the night of Thursday, someone stole a temporary mailbox for Christmas letters from Flöjtvägen in Lund.
The next day, the red post box was found nearby – ransacked.
Many of the Christmas cards were damaged and could not be forwarded.
– A problem with Christmas cards is that it is rarely traceable to the sender, says Jonas Öhrling, production manager at Postnord Tellusgatan in Lund, to South Sweden.
He has never seen someone steal a Christmas mailbox.
– Most likely the thieves were looking for cash. Our policy is to never send cash by letter, but it does happen occasionally.
The incident has been reported to the police.

During the day, they have tried to lure the chimpanzees back into the enclosure and close it, but have not succeeded.
“It is still a serious situation and our work to secure the fence continues during the night.”

The icing is done – now electricity can be cheaper
Now the de-icing in northern Sweden is complete and the hydropower plants can produce electricity at full capacity again, reports Echo.
It will result in lower electricity prices throughout Sweden, says Vattenfall.
– More production capacity has a dampening effect on electricity prices given that there is more production to meet the demand that exists. There is also an opportunity to once again fully export to the south of the country,” says Per Larsson, head of production planning in the Nordics at Vattenfall, to the radio.
During the last few weeks, the power plants have gone down in production to allow the ice to settle.
