Two meters of snow in Buffalo since Thursday

The so-called bomb cyclone has brought record high snow levels in, among other places, the city of Buffalo in the state of New York, reports Bloomberg.
A total of 196 centimeters of snow fell between Thursday and Sunday. People have been forced to spend the night in snow-covered bars and restaurants.
– This could be the worst storm in history, says New York Governor Kathy Hochul, to the Washington Post.

Two accidents on the E6 – drove into the center barrier
During the morning, two traffic accidents have occurred on the E6. Just before 09.30, there was an alarm about a single accident at Ljungskile.
– There is a car that has driven into a central guardrail, says Fredrik Svedemyr, press spokesperson at police region West.
Just 20 minutes later, there was an alarm about a single accident in Stenungsund, where a car had run off the road.
At an early stage, there are no reports of injuries.
The Swedish Transport Administration warns of wet road surfaces on the E6 both at Ljungskile and Stenungsund.
Alarm about shooting in Rinkeby – person shot
On Sunday morning at 08.35, the police received a call about sounds that sounded like gunshots in Rinkeby. At the scene, the police found a person with a gunshot wound.
– The police immediately begin life-saving measures. The extent of the damage is unclear, says Towe Hägg, press spokesperson for the police in the Stockholm region.
The police will search the platform and the area where the incident occurred.
No one has been arrested.
The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder.
A battery may have caused a fire in an apartment building in Tyresö
The police and emergency services were alerted to a fire in an apartment building in Tyresö on Saturday evening.
– The fire was described as having an explosive course. The national bomb protection has therefore also been on site and carried out investigations, says Towe Hägg, press spokesperson at the police in the Stockholm region.
A man was in the home and was arrested, initially suspected of gross violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods and Publicly Dangerous Devastation.
However, he was later released when it emerged that the fire may have started in connection with battery charging, the police report.
Suspicions remain as technicians are to carry out a fire investigation. No one was injured in the fire.
Woman found dead in Malmö – man arrested
A 55-year-old woman has been found dead in a home in Malmö.
Police, emergency services and an ambulance went to the address just before 19:00 on Christmas Eve evening after an alarm about a lifeless person.
The police are investigating the incident as a murder. A 35-year-old man has been arrested on reasonable suspicion, the lower level of suspicion.
The home was cordoned off for a crime scene investigation during the evening.
The woman’s next of kin have been notified.
Woman dead after shooting at pub in England
A woman has died after a shooting that occurred on Saturday evening at a pub near Liverpool, TT writes.
The police were alerted shortly before midnight local time. Many young people are said to have been in the pub and several people are said to have been injured. Among other things, a woman who was taken together with three men to hospital, where she later died.
– The investigation is at a very early stage and we understand that this is a truly shocking and devastating event that has happened just before Christmas Day, says Detective Inspector Dave McCaughrean.
According to the police, the suspected shooter may have left the scene in a dark car.
China stops reporting daily covid cases
The daily updates of the number of confirmed covid cases cease in China, the country’s national health commission has decided, writes TT.
“Relevant covid information will be published by the Chinese public health authority,” the NHC writes in a statement according to Reuters.
No explanation is given for the change or details of how often the public health authority will update its information. Since the start of the pandemic, the authorities have daily reported the number of infected people in China.
China’s strict zero-covid policy was abruptly abandoned in early December, and in recent days there have been reports of a record spread of covid-19 in the country.
Norwegian food tastes the worst
Norwegian food comes last when the newspaper Taste atlas readers got to vote for the best kitchens in the world. At the top we find the Italian, Greek and Spanish cuisines.

Buyers of solar cells may miss out on deductions

Anyone who has purchased a solar cell installation can make a so-called green deduction and receive a tax reduction of 15 percent for labor costs and materials, up to SEK 50,000.
But in order to be able to get it, the work needs to be done before the turn of the year, something that can be difficult for many because of the high pressure that has been on solar cells.
– If you have paid anything in 2022, the facility must be completed this year or perhaps by the end of January at the latest in order for you to be able to get a tax reduction at all, says Pia Blank Thörnroos, a lawyer at the Swedish Tax Agency to Ekot.
Heavy apartment fire in Tyresö
A heavy fire broke out in an apartment in Bollmora in Tyresö southeast of Stockholm late on Christmas Eve.
– It was an explosive fire. We have brought technicians there to investigate what may have burned, says Sylvia Oldin, duty officer at the police.
Callers raised the alarm about flames shooting out of the apartment at 10.47pm on Christmas Eve. Sylvia Oldin says the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured

Pope condemns “hunger for wealth and power”
The Pope condemned man’s hunger for wealth and power during his sermon in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Christmas Eve, it writes BBC.
Although he did not specifically mention the war in Ukraine, observers believe he meant that conflict with his statement.
– While animals eat in their stables, men and women in our world eat even their neighbors, mothers and sisters because of their hunger for wealth and power, he said in his sermon.
