Two arrested for attempted murder of small child

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a small child in Uppsala.

Both people were arrested on Wednesday.

– Both people were arrested on the same day, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, press spokesperson for police region Mitt.

Prosecutors are now investigating the case.

  • Elderly woman found dead under Christmas tree

    An 85-year-old woman was found dead under a large Christmas tree in central Boden on December 19, reports The Express.

    The tree under which she was found stands in the square Medborgarplatsen.

    – Now this was a very dense spruce, and it was dense all the way down to the ground, so when you see how it looks, it’s not really that strange, says Anette Krig, head of preliminary investigations at the police, to the newspaper.

    The last time the woman was seen alive was on December 13. On December 18, she was reported missing.

  • Road 70 closed after bus accident

    A bus has driven into the center guardrail on national highway 70 in Älvdalen.

    – The bus is blocking the northbound lane. It is unclear what kind of bus it is and if there are passengers on the bus, the rescue service’s command operator states.

  • Journalist arrested in Iran

    A journalist who has published interviews with relatives of those sentenced to death in Iran has been arrested. This is reported by TT with reference to the reform-minded Iranian newspaper Etemad daily.

    “Mehdi Beikoghli, head of Etemad daily’s political service, was arrested last night,” writes the newspaper.

    According to his wife, his phone, computer and personal belongings were seized during the arrest.

    Fourteen Iranians have been sentenced to death in connection with the wave of protests that has raged in the country since the death of 22-year-old Masha Amini in the custody of the morality police in September.

    Two 23-year-old men have already been executed as a result of the protests, which Iranian authorities call “riots”.

  • AFP: Shelling on the front line despite “ceasefire”

    During Friday, Russian media announced that the “ceasefire” in Ukraine had begun.

    AFP is now reporting that the news agency’s reporters on the ground in Ukraine heard shelling on the front line near the town of Bachmut.

    “AFP journalists heard artillery fire from both sides on the front line in Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine,” they write on Twitter.

    A boat with five people on board capsized in the water outside Västervik on Friday.

  • 200 million leaked email addresses

    Hackers are suspected of having leaked the email addresses of over 200 million Twitter users and posted them on an online forum for hackers, it says The Guardian.

    Alon Gal, co-founder of Israeli cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock, calls it “one of the biggest leaks I’ve ever seen.”

    Twitter has not verified the leak and it remains unclear who the hackers are and where they were. The attack may have been made as early as 2021, before Elon Musk took over Twitter.

  • Russian TV: Ceasefire in Ukraine begins

    Russian TV reports that the “truce” on the Ukrainian front is now underway, writes VG and refers to Reuters.

    It was yesterday that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country wants to see a two-day ceasefire.

    According to the Kremlin, the ceasefire should last until midnight on January 7.

    The Ukrainian government and Russia experts have expressed skepticism about the ceasefire.
