The Finance Committee says yes to the government’s proposal for a new law
The finance committee says yes to a temporary tax on excess income from certain electricity production. The new proposal is estimated to increase the state’s income by SEK 362 million in 2023, the committee announces in a press release.
The proposal is that revenues of more than SEK 1,957 per megawatt hour are taxed at 90 percent, between March and June this year.
As the proposal is based on an EU regulation that has been in effect since 1 December 2022, the finance committee believes that it is important that the law comes into force as soon as possible.
Several parties have objections to the proposal. Among other things, the Social Democrats criticize that the law was not put in place sooner. From the Left Party, criticism is directed at the government setting the tax at the lowest possible level.
The proposal will be debated in the Riksdag tomorrow, when a decision will also be taken.
