Almost half of the Russian tanks destroyed
Almost 40 percent of the Russian army’s tanks, which it possessed before the outbreak of war, are estimated to have been destroyed in the first nine months of the war. It reports The Guardianreferring to a report by the think tank International Institute of Strategic Studies, IISS.
The number of “combat-significant” tanks destroyed is said to be around 50 percent, which, according to the IISS, means that Russia may now be forced to use older tanks in the war in Ukraine, which Russia still has in stock since the Cold War.
The think tank’s figures are based largely on open-source imagery from drones, satellites and from the battlefield during the period from February 24 to the end of November 2022, and should be seen as an estimate only.
