An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has occurred in Tajikistan, near the border with China, reports Reuters.

There are currently no reports of personal injuries.

  • Six rockets against Israel – eleven dead in the West Bank

    At least six rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel, the Israeli military says.

    The rockets were fired overnight Thursday, after Israeli soldiers carried out a crackdown on the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, which led to an exchange of fire in which at least 11 Palestinians were killed. According to AFP, 80 people were injured in the raid.

    The air traffic alert went off in the southern parts of the country as a result of the rockets. The Israeli military states that five out of six rockets were shot down. The last rocket landed in a field, and there are no reports of injuries. (TT)

  • Several dead in triple shooting – girl among the victims

    Three people are dead after three connected shootings in a residential area in Pine Hills, Florida on Wednesday.

    In the morning, a woman in her 20s was shot dead in her home. In the afternoon, two journalists from a local TV station were shot when they were in the area to cover the murder. The journalists were in their car when they were shot. One of them died from his injuries.

    A short time later, a nine-year-old girl was shot dead in her home further down the street. Her mother was also hit by bullets and is being treated for serious injuries.

    Keith Melvin Moses, 19, has been arrested and is a suspect in all three shootings, reports local television station WFTV9.

  • One arrested after house fire

    A person has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a house fire in Rimbo in Norrtälje on Wednesday evening, the police write on their website.

    Two people had to be taken to hospital in connection with the fire, after being taken out of the house by smoke divers, reports Norrtelje Newspaper. It is unclear how badly injured they are.

    The alarm came in at 9:15 p.m. and by 11 p.m. the fire was out. The place has been cordoned off and will be examined by police forensics. (TT)

    The US Department of Defense has released a selfie taken by the pilot of a U-2 surveillance plane flying above the Chinese spy balloon before it was shot down on February 4.

    The image is the sharpest yet and shows both the balloon and its cargo.

    Stockholm’s regional police chief Mats Löfving, 61, is dead, the police say.

    – It is with great sadness and consternation that I received the news that Deputy National Police Chief and Regional Police Chief Mats Löfving has passed away. It is extremely tragic, says national police chief Anders Thornberg.

    The police were alerted at 19:00 about an injured person inside. The police were later able to establish that Löfving died in his home in Norrköping.

    Next of kin have been notified.

    – My thoughts go out to Mats Löfving, his relatives and work colleagues. We will do everything we can to support them in this difficult time, says Anders Thornberg.

  • Kristersson: NATO talks with Turkey in March

    In March, the NATO talks between Sweden, Finland and Turkey will resume.

    This is stated by Ulf Kristersson in SVT’s Aktuellt.

    The talks are to begin “somewhat into March”.

  • Five injured in serious traffic accident

    Five people have been injured in a serious traffic accident between two cars outside Lycksele.

    The injured have been taken to Lycksele hospital. There is difficult weather in the area, which means that the ambulance helicopter cannot take off. The ambulance flight and the Swedish Maritime Administration’s rescue helicopter are on site in Lycksele to help with patient transport, according to Region Västerbotten.

    One person is seriously injured and has been taken to Norrland University Hospital in Umeå. Other victims are being treated at the emergency room in Lycksele and are being prepared for possible transport to Umeå, according to the region.

    Lycksele hospital has gone into reinforcement mode and gathered the local healthcare management.

  • Fire in mine – heavy smoke development

    There is a fire in Garpenberg’s mine in Hedemora.

    According to the alarm, the fire must have started in a transformer just before 8 pm on Wednesday evening.

  • Man abused by 15 people

    A man in Skattegården in Gothenburg called the police after being beaten by 15-20 people, the police write on their website.

  • Fed: There will be more rate hikes
