Statistics Sweden: Increased employment in January
Employment increased in January according to new statistics from Statistics Sweden, writes TT.
The number of employed people increased by 114,000 people compared to the same month the year before.
The number of long-term unemployed decreased by 34,000 to 122,000. Seasonally adjusted, unemployment landed at 7.2 percent, which was a certain reduction.

The government and SD want to tighten labor immigration
The requirements for labor immigration must be tightened, the government and SD announced during a joint press conference.
The aim is to reduce unskilled labor immigration.
According to Ludvig Aspling, SD’s spokesperson for labor market issues, says that the current system is being abused.
– Certain occupational categories must be completely excluded from the possibility of coming to Sweden, he says.
According to Johan Pehrson (L), it should be easy for highly qualified labor to come to Sweden.
– It should continue to be easy for the highly qualified, but we must have a floor, he says.
The investigation must be presented on 1 January 2024.
The warning: Intoxication on dry shampoo can be fatal
The trend of inhaling dry shampoo is spreading among young people. Now the Poisons Information Center warns that it can be life-threatening.
– This is really not something you should be doing. In the worst case, it can lead to cardiac arrest and death because the gas affects the sensitive signaling system in the heart, says Erik Lindeman, chief physician at the Poison Information Center, in a press release.
It is above all the propellant gas in the bottle that is dangerous and, according to Lindeman, it can cause an acute cardiac arrest.
It can also cause permanent damage to the nervous system.
Acute symptoms can be intoxication, lethargy or breathing problems and require hospital care.
Jämtin is allowed to leave his job as Sida manager

The government does not give Sida’s director general Carin Jämtin renewed confidence. She may quit in May when her appointment expires, TT reports.
– We believe that aid policy in this situation is best served by a fresh start, says Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell (M) to TT.
The position will be advertised shortly, according to Forssell.
Jämtin is the second director general to leave in a short time. Four days ago, the government announced that the Migration Agency’s director general Mikael Ribbenvik may leave his post – he too in May.
Pastor tried to fast like Jesus – died
A pastor in Mozambique has died after trying to fast for 40 days, TT reports.
In the Bible it is described that Jesus fasted for such a long period.
After 25 days without food or water, he was so weak that he could not stand up and was taken to a hospital in the city of Beira. Acute anemia and failing digestive organs were found there.
Despite attempts to give the pastor liquid nutrition, his life could not be saved, the BBC reports. He was 39 years old.
Temporary morgues in New Zealand after Cyclone Gabrielle
In New Zealand, the death toll rises to eight after Cyclone Gabrielle hit the country’s North Island. Authorities in the country have set up two temporary morgues due to the deaths, report The Guardian.
It is done as a routine measure so that possible deaths can be handled correctly, according to the police. Among the dead are an infant and a firefighter.
– The facilities have been established as a precautionary measure to ensure that any deaths can be handled with care and respect, says a police spokesperson.
US alert: Serious vulnerabilities in Apple products
Apple has released an important update to fix serious vulnerabilities in several products, it reports US cyber security agency Cisa.
“An attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected device,” the authority writes on its website.
Cisa encourages users to check Apple’s list of security updates and fix vulnerabilities as soon as possible and update their versions of Safari 16.3.1, iOS 16.3.1, iPadOS 16.3.1 and macOS 13.2.1.
Apple has not provided any further details about the vulnerability.
Car overturned after police chase – two to hospital
A man and a woman in their 25s and 30s were taken to hospital by ambulance after they drove away from the police at around 01:30.
The car they were traveling in overturned near Salem’s church between Stockholm and Södertälje. According to police officer on duty Fredrik Nylén, the chase began when the driver refused to stop for the police:
– The pursuit was interrupted when we lost the car. A while later we saw it again and then it drove into the ditch.
The driver is now suspected of drunk driving. The extent of the injuries is unclear, but according to the police, both the man and the woman were awake and able to speak after the accident.

The police found the missing man
A 64-year-old man was missing in Kopparberg after he went out for a walk around 6pm on Thursday.
At 02.18 on the night of Friday, the police announced that the man was found alive in a wooded area near his home and was taken to hospital for a check-up.

US President Joe Biden has been declared fit for work after an annual health check.
“The president does not use tobacco products, does not drink alcohol, and he continues to exercise at least five days a week,” writes Biden’s doctor.
Joe Biden, 80, is the oldest president ever in the United States. He has not yet announced whether he will run for re-election next year.
