  • More children call Bris – great concern about war and the economy

New figures from Bris show that seven percent more children called the children’s rights organization in 2022 compared to the year before, reports TT.

The talks were permeated by concerns about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the economy.

    – After the outbreak of war, children contacted us with great concern and wondered if Russia would attack Sweden. Older teenagers think about this NATO thing; will I have to do the rags? Or will I have to fight?, says Magnus Jägerskog, general secretary at Bris, to TT.

    He continues:

    – During the second half of last year, more children began to raise concerns about food prices, that electricity is expensive and people wonder what is going on.

According to Magnus Jägerskog, more powerful efforts aimed at families with children with small margins and long-term investments are now needed to strengthen equal growing up conditions for children in order to overcome the concerns.

On Monday, Police Chief David Smith held a press conference about the incident and stated that the dead are two women, 33 and 35 years old respectively.

A third person is critically injured, and seven more were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

  • Airport closed after attack

According to the state-controlled Syrian news agency Sana, Israel is said to have attacked the airport in Aleppo early on Tuesday. The attack caused material damage to the airport, which has been closed. It is not yet known if any people were injured.

Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on targets in government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, including the airports in Damascus and Aleppo.

Israel has previously confirmed that it is targeting bases belonging to Iran-backed groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which supports the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad’s rule.

Aleppo, which has suffered widespread devastation during the Syrian civil war, was also hit hard by the large Turkey-Syria earthquake in February. The airport in Aleppo has since been used to bring aid shipments into the area.

Opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya has today been sentenced to 15 years in prison in her absence, Reuters reports.

The sentence comes from a court in Minsk, which believes that Svetlana Tichanovskaja was guilty of treason and “conspiracy to seize power”, a sentence which, according to her, is a punishment for her efforts to promote democracy in the country.

It was in 2020 that Svetlana Tichanovskaya ran in the Belarusian presidential election against Aleksandr Lukashenko.

Tikhanovskaya was considered to have won the election, but instead Lukashenko was named president and the next day Tikhanovskaya was forced to flee the country.
