  • Ukraine: Killed soldier identified

The soldier who appears to be executed by Russian soldiers in a viral video clip has been identified.

The video shows a man who, according to Ukraine, is a Ukrainian soldier. He carries no weapon and stands smoking a cigarette by a trench. He says “long live Ukraine”, before being shot with automatic weapons by unidentified soldiers. The man collapses on the ground.

Now the Ukrainian security service says that the victim is a 42-year-old sniper born in Moldova. (TT)

  • Wants 18-year-olds to be allowed to drive taxis

The industry organization Swedish Taxi Association proposes that the age requirement for taxi driver training be lowered from 21 to 18 years.

It can help alleviate the driver shortage that has been raging since the pandemic broke out, the union states in a press release.

The union also wants to abolish the current two-year limit, which means that a job seeker must wait two years after obtaining a driver’s license before they can apply for a taxi driver’s license. (TT)

  • Doubled arms imports to Europe

Arms imports to Europe almost doubled last year, according to a report from the peace research institute Sipri.

Above all, the war in Ukraine is behind the increase in imports, but other countries have also increased their military spending. And the increase is expected to continue.

“Although arms deliveries have decreased globally, they have increased sharply to Europe due to tensions between Russia and most other European states,” says researcher Peter Wezeman.

  • Salary deduction for sleeping alarm manager

One night last summer, an emergency manager on duty at a detention center in the country was found sleeping on a sofa in the staff room. Now the Prison Service’s personnel responsibility board has decided on ten days’ salary deduction, writes Arbetsvärlden.

An emergency manager must be able to quickly intervene in the event of an alarm – sleeping is considered a safety risk.

The emergency manager admits that he fell asleep, but that it was only temporary. But the board believes that the emergency manager violated his obligations in employment. (TT)

    It reports CNBC.

This time it concerns the New York-based crypto bank Signature Bank.

The bank’s share fell more than 22 percent in Friday trading on Wall Street, writes TT.

South Korea’s top military command detected a test firing from a submarine near the North Korean port city of Sinpo on Sunday, they said in a statement.

But North Korea claims it fired two.

The country has previously said it has decided to take “important practical” war deterrent measures, on the occasion of South Korea’s and the United States’ biggest joint military exercise in five years.

    – It is very likely that there is not much of the value left, says Jacob Lapidus, press manager at Alecta, to Ekot.

Alecta made its latest investment in SVB in 2022.

  • Ukraine wants to change its name to Russia

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskyy is investigating the possibility of changing the name of Russia, writes the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta Europe.

The proposal comes from an online petition, and is about renaming Russia to Muskovy, or Moskovija in Russian.

The name was sometimes applied to the Russian Empire before the time of Peter the Great.

The petition has received over 25,000 signatures, and now Zelenskyy has asked the country’s prime minister to investigate the proposal.

    – Zelensky wants a language where Ukraine is seen as the original, civilized Russia, and that Putin’s Moscow state is something completely different. It is an attack on Putin, says Kristian Gerner, professor emeritus of history at Lund University, to Norwegian VG.
