In Greystones, Ireland, parents have decided to ban the town’s children from having smartphones.
The parents’ associations in the eight schools have adopted a “no-smartphone” code to maintain a common front against the children’s demands, reports The Guardian.
The ban applies both at home and at school until the children turn thirteen. The initiative started after a concern that phones increase anxiety and risk exposing children to adult content.
– It’s not the end of the world for me. I know some in my class don’t like it at all. But we’re kids, what can we do, says Josh Webb, 12.
The code is voluntary, but enough parents have adopted it to create a “critical mass” that parents hope can create a new norm in the city.

However, Vattenfall believes that it has carried out careful checks and that it has been assessed that the company had no connections to the government or the party.
“Overall, we feel secure with the safety of the electricity meters that are installed and the checks and follow-ups that are carried out continuously,” writes Vattenfall in a comment to TT.
