  • Hungary’s foreign minister: “We will not send weapons to Ukraine”

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó wants a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine. He says so in SVT’s Agenda.

    – The first goal is to stop killing people and that means cease-fire agreements, nothing else, says Peter Szijjártó.

    – Look at the infrastructure, at the number of people leaving the country. The country is being destroyed and it is not in anyone’s interest.

When asked why the country does not send weapons to Ukraine, the foreign minister replies:

    – We are neighboring countries to Ukraine and do not want more people to die. That is why we are working to stop it. We do not send weapons, we continue to argue for peace.

Hungary has also been criticized for sticking to energy agreements with Russia despite the war.

But according to Szijjártó, EU sanctions have failed to stop the war and make it less brutal.

    – But has it hurt us? Yes. The solutions that we tried to find in Europe simply did not work.

But to say that Hungary and President Viktor Orbán run Putin’s errands and dance to the Kremlin’s tune is not fair, says the foreign minister, pointing out that the country has condemned the invasion.

    – The territorial sovereignty of all countries must be respected, says Szijjártó.

  • The power plant in Zaporizhzhya has become a Russian military base

A year ago, Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which accounted for a fifth of Ukraine’s electricity supply and is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

During a year of occupation, the Russians have turned the work into a military base. That’s what Dmytro Orlov, former mayor of the town of Enerhodar, which is located a little over twelve miles from the nuclear power plant next to the Dnieper River, who fled to the town of Zaporizhzhya, which is held by Ukrainian forces, says. This is reported by AP, which interviewed the mayor.

According to Orlov, the Russian military has taken advantage of the Ukrainian decision not to shell the facility. They have thus been able to bring soldiers, weapons and other equipment to the facility.

    – The Russians are taking cover behind a nuclear shield, says Dmytro Orlov.

Today, around 1,000 Russian soldiers have camped in the nuclear power plant, which has also become an extensive military depot, according to Mayor Orlov, writes TT.
