  • Major ferry fire in the Philippines – at least twelve dead

  • At least 39 dead – guards being investigated after fire in migrant detention center

    It was on Monday that a severe fire broke out in a migrant detention center in Mexico. At least 39 detained migrants died as a result of the fire.

    Several guards and government employees are being investigated as none of them took any measures to open the door for the migrants who were on fire inside, reports TT.

    The fire is believed to have started after some of the migrants set fire to mattresses in protest against their detention.

    30 people are being treated in hospital with serious injuries.

    – They could never imagine that it would cause this terrible accident, stated Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador already the day after the tragedy, TT reports.

    Prosecutors have issued several arrest warrants.

  • Residence shelled in Mölndal

    A residence in the municipality of Mölndal has been shelled during the night of Thursday, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

    A neighbor alerted the police at 02:00 after loud bangs and broken glass panes.

    – After that, a person must have left the scene quickly by car, says the police officer on duty, Sebastian Börjesson, to the newspaper.

    The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder.

    No people are said to have been injured in connection with the incident.

  • Shots fired at apartment buildings

    Late on Wednesday, shots were fired at an apartment building in Veberöd in Lund municipality.

    – We received an alarm at 22.45 after a resident noted that something, which could be a shot, had gone through a glass pane. When we were on site, we could ascertain that it was a shooting, says Peter Martin, officer on duty at the police.

    No one was injured in the shooting and no one is in custody or a suspect.

    The incident is classified as attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences. According to Peter Martin, it is still too early to say what type of weapon may have been fired.

    – But it is enough that we know that it is a serious weapon crime and therefore not an air weapon or something else that was used. (TT)

  • Reported side effects decreased

    The number of reported side effects of medicines decreased last year, according to the Swedish Medicines Agency.

    In 2022, 22,466 reports were received, a sharp decrease compared to 2021 when the number was 99,211. The decrease is entirely due to the fact that the number of reported suspected side effects of covid-19 decreased when more people were vaccinated, according to the authority.

    Of the reports of serious suspected side effects received in 2022, 60 percent concerned women and 40 percent men. (TT)

  • Erdogan: Putin can visit Turkey

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may soon receive a visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

    Erdogan himself stated this to Turkish ATV late on Wednesday, reports the pro-government Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah.

    The visit may take place on April 27 in connection with the inauguration of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant in Akkuyu, which Russia’s Rosatom helped to build. Erdogan notes that Putin may travel to Turkey or participate via teleconference. (TT)

  • The discovery: Ultramassive black hole

    Using new technology, astronomers have discovered one of the largest black holes ever recorded, write CNN.

    The ultramassive black hole has a mass 30 billion times that of the Sun.

    The research team calls the discovery “extremely exciting”.

    – This black hole, which has a mass of around 30 billion times that of the Sun, is one of the largest ever discovered and is at the upper limit of how big we think black holes can theoretically be, says the study’s lead author James Nightingale at Durham University, according to CNN.

    The research results open the door to discovering more ultramassive black holes and investigating how they could have become so large, say the researchers.

  • Seven detained in terror investigations

    Seven people have been detained in Belgium in double investigations into “possible terrorist attacks”, writes TT and refers to the federal prosecutor’s office.

    Five Belgians, one Turk and one Bulgarian are accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist group.

    Five of them are also accused of preparation for terrorist crimes.

    This week, the police have carried out house searches in places such as Brussels and Antwerp.

    Eight people were then arrested, but one of them has been released.

  • Man seriously injured after house fire

    A heavy fire broke out in a villa in Sunne in Värmland on Wednesday evening.

  • Hi, why do you have to have locked articles that you have to pay for when it comes to things like Putin and the war, not everyone can afford that, but still want to be able to follow along a bit in case something serious happens, ps food and electricity are expensive now

    But according to statistics from the Prison Service, 189 people served a life sentence in Sweden in November 2022.

    It is the highest since 1989, when the Norwegian Prison and Probation Service started keeping such statistics.
