  • Tremors on Bornholm were flight training

The strong tremors reported from Danish Bornholm and from parts of southern Sweden this weekend were probably caused by an exercise with fighter jets in the Öresund area.

    Seismologist Björn Lund tells TT.

At first it was thought to be an earthquake, but the Danish Geological Research Institute Geus has dismissed it.

It is also not considered likely that a controlled explosion in Poland was behind the phenomenon.

Instead, it is about “acoustic pressure waves from one or more events somewhere in the atmosphere”, according to the seismologists at Geus who do not know what caused the strong pressure waves.

    – What usually happens when we receive reports of rumbling and shaking is almost always that the air force has passed through the sound barrier at sea, and the atmospheric conditions have been such that the sound bang rolled in over land, says Björn Lund to TT.
