  • Motorboat has run over sailboat

A motorboat has run over a sailboat near Nämdö outside Stockholm.

A man and a woman were down in the hull of the sailboat when a motorboat driver first ran over a dock facility and then ran over the cockpit of the sailboat.

    – It was a strong bang. The sailboat has sustained significant damage. Including mast breakage, but not only that. He has passed over the cockpit, that is, driven over it. It was lucky that no one was on deck, says Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson for the Stockholm police region.

The driver of the motorboat then drove on from the scene. The man and woman suffered cuts and bruises from the collision.

Later, the maritime police found a drunken man in his 50s who is suspected of being the one who drove the motorboat.

    – He is drunk when we meet him, but so much time has passed between the accident and when we meet him that it is not possible to prove that he was drunk when it happened, says Daniel Wikdahl.

The man is suspected of gross negligence in maritime traffic, contagion from a maritime accident and two cases of causing bodily harm.

    The motorboat has been impounded.

The accident occurred on Friday evening.
