Metsola wants to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola made an announced visit to Lviv this week.
The purpose of the trip was to meet with President Zelensky and talk about Ukraine’s bid to join the EU, reports Politico.
“I am hopeful that accession negotiations can start already this year,” Metsola said in Lviv on Saturday.
Zelensky himself traveled to Brussels a month ago where he gave a speech in parliament.

Russia seals the Nord Stream pipelines

There are no Russian plans to repair or restore the Nord Stream pipes, according to Reuters sources.
Instead, they will be sealed to prevent them from being broken down by seawater.
The plan with the Nord stream pipelines was to pump 110 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
But after the tense situation between Russia and the Western countries, as a result of the war in Ukraine, it seems that construction will not resume after the explosions last autumn.
Scooter and car in collision
The police were called to a road in the municipality of Storuma due to a traffic accident.

Traffic accident in Sälen
A traffic accident has occurred on county road 311 at Gudmundsätra outside Sälen.

Man found dead under the ice

A man in his 50s has died in an accident with a quadricycle in Enköping.
Relatives have been notified.
The alarm about the accident came in at 07.30 on Saturday morning. According to the police, the man must have driven off the road.
An earthquake has hit New Zealand
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 has erupted in the Kermadec Islands in New Zealand according to the Seismological Center for Europe and the Mediterranean, EMSC.
The earthquake has a depth of 183 kilometers.

SMHI has issued weather warnings for gales
SMHI has issued several yellow weather warnings for Saturday.
SMHI warns of wind in the area around Fårösund and Fårö and in large parts of Härjedalsfjällen and Jämtlandsfjällen.

Suspected attempted murder in park – woman arrested
It was just before 02:00 on Saturday night that the police were alerted to an injured man in a park in central Stockholm.
The injured man had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. According to information to the police, the suspected perpetrator had fled the scene, but was later arrested.
The woman is now under arrest following a decision by the prosecutor on probable cause on suspicion of attempted murder.
