Kidnapped aid workers released

Two aid workers kidnapped in Mali in early March were released on Sunday, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
“We confirm that two ICRC staff who were kidnapped on March 4 between Gao and Kidal in northern Mali have been released this evening,” the ICRC writes on Twitter.
The organization also writes that the two aid workers are unharmed and were released without conditions. (TT)

Macron hopeful ahead of vote
French President Emmanuel Macron is hopeful ahead of Monday’s final ruling on the pension reform that has led to major protests.
Macron said in a written statement on Sunday that he hopes the proposal on Monday can reach the finish line of “his democratic journey”.
The pension proposal will be adopted by parliament on Monday unless either of the two different requests for no-confidence votes against the government goes through. (TT)
The alarm: Children eat tranquilizers in Tikto challenge
A new challenge on Tiktok in which children take sedatives is causing concern in Latin America, reports Swedens radio.
Young people have ended up in hospital after taking part in the “Last to sleep” challenge.
They have then taken sedative tablets and tried to stay awake as long as possible.
In Mexico, 500 such incidents were reported in 2022.
So far this year, around 40 children in the country have needed hospital care. Similar cases have been reported in Ecuador and Chile.
One to hospital after single accident
Shortly after 22:30 on Sunday evening, the police, emergency services and ambulance were called to Storebro in Vimmerby, where a car had driven off the road and collided with a tree.
The driver has been taken to hospital by ambulance.
The car is recovered from the scene.
Kim Jong Un: Should be ready for nuclear attacks
North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un said on Sunday evening that the country should be ready to launch a nuclear attack at any moment to “deter war”.
It reports Reuters.
He accuses the US and South Korea of increasing their military exercises involving US nuclear assets.
North Korea carried out another weapons test early on Sunday.
According to the South Korean military, a ballistic robot was fired into the sea off the country’s east coast.
The robot must have flown 80 miles before hitting a target, according to the military.
Swedish woman dead in avalanche in Italy
A 25-year-old Swedish woman has died in an avalanche in the ski resort of Courmayeur in Italy, Italian media reports.
Another Swedish woman of the same age is missing, according to Il Gazzettino. The search will continue on Monday morning.
Two other Swedish people are said to have also been in the group but are said to have escaped the avalanche.
The alarm was received at 1 p.m. by skiers who saw the incident.

Over 500 dead after Cyclone Freddy

More than 520 people have died when Cyclone Freddy advanced in south-east Africa, writes TT.
According to the United Nations Meteorological Organization (WMO), the cyclone is probably the longest in time measured so far, reports Al Jazeera.
Tens of thousands of people have been left homeless in the hardest-hit country, Malawi.
Around 345,000 people have been affected by heavy rain, floods and landslides.
– Many areas are inaccessible, which limits the movement of assessment and humanitarian groups and life-saving supplies, says Paul Turnbull, head of the UN food program WFP in Malawi.

Fully developed fire in villa
A villa is on fire in Hedekas in Munkedal, according to P4 West.
At half past seven, the alarm came to the emergency services, and when they arrived at the scene, the fire was fully developed.
No one was injured, but the building cannot be saved.
At 10 p.m., the rescue service was left with one unit.
– We let it burn to the ground, says Fredrik Meurk at the rescue service Bohusläningen.
It is unclear what caused the fire.
Fisherman missing – major rescue effort
A major rescue operation has been underway outside Ronneby after a fisherman was reported missing, reports P4 Blekinge.
The person was expected to be home around 4 p.m. He never appeared and the man’s relatives reported him missing.
– The weather is very bad in the area. We won’t give up until we find him, says Konas Brunosson, assistant rescue leader at the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre.

Person dead – drove into mine hole
One person has died after driving down a mine hole in Dannemora in Östhammar municipality.
A rescue operation involving the police, emergency services and ambulance was launched at 1pm on Sunday.
– We have had a great effort during the day and have now been able to establish that one person is deceased, says police RLC officer Pierre Pelizzoli.
Drones and helicopters were used in the operation.
It is currently unclear what caused the accident. The police do not suspect any crime.
Next of kin have been notified.
UBS doubles the offer – the parties agree
During the morning, information came that UBS has made a bid for the banking giant Credit Suisse of one billion dollars.
A few hours later, UBS doubled the offer to two billion dollars in shares, which Credit Suisse has now approved.

Serbia’s president says no to Kosovo at the UN
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic says Kosovo will not be allowed to join the United Nations, reports Echo.
This means that he violates Article 4 of the Franco-German plan that the parties agreed upon after a marathon negotiation.
