Heavy apartment fire in Tyresö
A heavy fire broke out in an apartment in Bollmora in Tyresö southeast of Stockholm late on Christmas Eve.
– It was an explosive fire. We have brought technicians there to investigate what may have burned, says Sylvia Oldin, duty officer at the police.

Pope condemns “hunger for wealth and power”

Former foreign minister deceased
The Italian politician Franco Frattini has died after being treated in hospital for cancer, reports the news agency Ansa. He was foreign minister in Silvio Berlusconi’s governments 2002–2004 and 2008–2011.
He also ran for the post of Secretary General of NATO, a post that went to former Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Abolishes the death penalty
Zambia is abolishing the death penalty, something that President Hakainde Hichilema had as an election promise when he was elected president in 2021.

Fewer holes during the pandemic
Children’s dental health does not appear to have generally worsened during the pandemic.

Dead man found in Gothenburg

A motorist had noticed that a metal object had fallen out of the car’s wheel arch and onto the ground and then ended up on his car. The National Bomb Squad was called to the scene.
A preliminary investigation into attempts at public destruction and violations of the law on flammable and explosive goods has been carried out.
No one has been arrested.
The police cordoned off the area and shortly after 5 p.m. the cordons were lifted.
