Government: Yes to new wind farm

The government gives the green light for Vattenfall to lay cables on the seabed for the large Krieger Flak wind farm, TT reports.

The park will consist of 35 to 50 wind turbines, according to Vattenfall. The state-owned company believes that the park can be put into operation in 2028.

– Now everything that is needed in terms of permits is in place, says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L).

The decision will be taken during a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

  • Mikail Yüksel keeps his place in Botkyrka

    The leader of the party Nyan, Mikail Yüksel, is allowed to keep his seat in the Botkyrka municipal council. The Electoral Review Authority decided on Wednesday, according to Ecot.

    “A real threat has arisen. Please stay under cover until the air traffic alert stops going off,” confirmed Lviv Governor Maksym Kozytskyi on Telegram.

    There are no reports of dead or injured.

  • Meteorite caused loud bang

    Residents of the city of Mission in Texas called the emergency number about a loud bang that caused the windows to shake during the night towards Thursday, Swedish time.

    The local sheriff later confirmed on Twitter a meteorite was seen from two airplanes and is believed to have caused the explosion.

    There are no reports of damage to people or property.

    It had been 228 hours, just over nine days, after the earthquake in Turkey when a woman and her two children were dug up alive in the city of Hatay on Wednesday.

    Rescue worker Mehmet Eryilmaz says to the Anadolu news agency that he held the woman by the hand. She asked for water and asked:

    More than 40,000 people have so far been confirmed dead in the disaster.

  • Shooting at door in Gothenburg

    Several shots have been fired at an apartment door in Järnbrott in southwest Gothenburg.

  • Serbian nationalists threaten to riot

    Hundreds of Serbian nationalists and pro-Russian activists protested against the country’s government on Wednesday.

    The protesters threatened to riot if Serbia accepts a Western-backed plan to improve relations with Kosovo, reports Reuters.

    – If the leaders of our state do not stop Kosovo from joining the UN, we shall request that the Russian leaders use their veto. Then we get one month to remove the traitor, said a protest leader, referring to President Aleksandar Vucic.

    Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, something not recognized by Serbia.

  • At least 39 dead after bus accident

    At least 39 people have died after a bus plunged down a cliff in Panama on Wednesday.

    A total of 66 passengers were on board and according to local media, the driver lost control of the bus after missing an entrance, writes, The Guardian.

    On board the bus were traveling migrants who were on their way to the United States.

  • Mysterious package at Landvetter was harmless

    A suspiciously dangerous package was discovered at Landvetter Airport on Wednesday evening.

    The bomb squad was called in to examine the object, which was found to be harmless.

    At 11:40 p.m., the restrictions were lifted.

    The head of the World Bank, David Malpass, is leaving in June, TT reports.

    “After much thought, I have decided to take on new challenges. Now the World Bank can implement a seamless change of leadership as we face global challenges,” Malpass said in a statement.

    The 66-year-old American economist took up the post at the World Bank in the spring of 2019.

    The World Bank is a leader in lending to mainly projects in growing economies and developing countries.

    Payton Gendron, 19, shot dead ten people in Buffalo, USA, last year. Now he is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release.

    One of the crimes Gendron has pleaded guilty to and is being sentenced for is a racially motivated act of terrorism, writes TT.

    – I did something terrible that day. I shot and killed people because they were black, Gendron said before the verdict, according to the report Reuters.

    – I hope they keep you alive so you have to suffer with the thought of what you did for the rest of your life, said a relative of one of the victims at the trial.
