Chinese warplanes crossed the border into Taiwan
43 Chinese Air Force aircraft have crossed the so-called “median line” – the informal border between China and Taiwan in the past 24 hours, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense. reports Reuters.
During Christmas Day, China conducted military exercises in the area in response to what it calls “provocations” from Taiwan and the United States. The Chinese gave a short written statement in which they wrote, among other things:
“This is a resolute response to the current escalation of US-Taiwan collusion and provocation”

Indian police accuse rats of eating 500 kilos of cannabis seized from drug cartels, it says CNN.
“Rats are small and not afraid of the police,” notes a court in the state of Uttar Pradesh, after the local police were unable to produce 200 kilograms of cannabis to be used as evidence.
But it is noted that the explanations from the police have changed. When CNN spoke to the head of the local police chief outside the court, he said the lost cannabis had been destroyed by rain and flooding.
The court has now ordered all police stations in the state to review the security of their warehouses.

Russian submarine boss mysteriously dead

Alexander Buzakov, CEO of one of Russia’s largest shipyards in Saint Petersburg, died suddenly on Christmas Eve. No official cause of death has yet been announced for the rich businessman’s sudden death, writes Newsweek.
He and company were known as experts in diesel-electric submarines and the day before he died he was present at the launch of a new submarine named Velikie Luki.
His sudden death was described as “far too soon” and “tragic” by the state-run Russian news agency TASS.
Trains derailed – 51 were poisoned
51 people were poisoned when a train loaded with ammonia derailed in Serbia, reports AFP.
Seven people needed to be taken to hospital.
The accident occurred in the town of Pirot in southeastern Serbia.
A state of emergency was declared in the affected neighborhoods and residents were asked to stay indoors.
Seven with British connections arrested in Iran
Seven people with links to Britain have been arrested by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
According to state Iranian media, the persons have had “leadership roles” in the protests.
They were arrested when they tried to leave the country and some of them allegedly have dual citizenship.
The British Foreign Ministry is working to get more information about the arrests, The Guardian reports.
Ex-president gets eleven years in prison

The former president of the Maldives, Abdulla Yameen, is sentenced to eleven years in prison for money laundering and bribery, writes TT.
According to the verdict, he rented out an island belonging to the government and took the money himself.
Yameen was president of the country between 2013 and 2018.
In 2019, he was sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering, but the sentence was overturned two years later by the Supreme Court.
Woman on kick found
The police were tonight looking for an 87-year-old woman who disappeared from her home in central Kalix.
The woman was probably traveling on a blue kick.
At 8:40 p.m., the police announced that she had been found alive, but cooled down.
Six dead in bus accident
Six people died in a bus accident in Galicia in Spain on Saturday evening, TT reports.
The bus drove off a bridge and then plunged 75 meters into a river.
Eight passengers were on the bus, and two of them, the driver and a passenger, were rescued by emergency services. They were taken to hospital.
During the night, the rescue work was suspended due to bad weather, but it was resumed on Sunday morning.
One of the dead was found in the bus, the others were found in the river.
Stop in train traffic
There is a stop in the train service between Malmö and Stockholm. According to the Swedish Transport Administration, traffic will be affected until at least 7:30 p.m.
All train traffic on the route between Malmö and Stockholm is affected.
– There has been an accident and the emergency services are on the scene, says Pernilla Johansson, at SJ’s press service.
Ten missing after avalanche

An avalanche has occurred in the ski resort of Lech-Zürs in Austria.
According to the newspaper Glance ten people are missing. They are now being searched for by rescue helicopters and avalanche search dogs.
An injured person is said to have been found after the landslide.

The dog in Norrköping is dead
The aggressive dog that attacked several people in Norrköping has died, the police write on their website.
The dog was euthanized on Sunday.
“The vet made the assessment that the dog was in such bad condition that it needed to be euthanized for animal welfare reasons. “

Chicken barn caught fire
There is a fire in a chicken barn in Orsa.
– It is overheated and it will burn out. Now they are trying to protect nearby buildings, says Nicole Chabo, team leader at SOS alarm responsible for Region Bergslagen.
Nearby is a horse stable, a sheep stable and a short distance away is a residential building.
When the fire started, the chickens were still in the chicken barn, but Nicole Chabo can’t answer whether they managed to get them out.
The police have also been on the scene, but have left.
No one should have been injured.
The rescue service’s forecast is that they will be ready at the scene at eight o’clock tonight.
