today at 11.41 Adrian Ericson

Will there be any electricity support for northern Sweden?

The question was put to the Minister of Business and Energy Ebba Busch (KD) at today’s press conference on electricity prices.

– We do not rule anything out, but continuously look at how households and businesses are affected, what are effective measures and what else we can do.

The minister emphasizes that electricity prices in the south have been a reality for a long time.

– But now that we see that more households are affected, we do not rule out coming up with further measures. Some of the households in electricity areas three and four [södra halvan av Sverige] which receives support now in February, it was very difficult already last winter. But we are continuously looking at that question and will come back, says Busch.

To mitigate the effects of inflation and high electricity prices, companies must be allowed to defer tax payments.

This was announced by Minister of Business and Energy Ebba Busch (KD) and Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson (M) at a press conference.

    – The proposals will make it easier for many companies when they feel that liquidity is tough, says Svantesson.

Tax deferrals have been used as a support measure during the pandemic.

The government wants to increase the number of months that companies can defer taxes and fees from nine to twelve months. The companies must also be able to apply for a grace period for April-June 2022. The outer deadline is moved from 12 February to 12 September 2023.

The measure is expected to cost approximately 130 million for 2023 and will be presented as an amendment budget to the Riksdag.

  • Ukrainian intelligence chief: Deadlock in the fighting

The fighting in Ukraine is at a stalemate. Neither Russia nor Ukraine is making significant progress. This is what the Ukrainian intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov says BBC in an interview where he describes that the situation has stuck.

    – We cannot defeat them in all directions. Neither can they. We very much look forward to new weapons support and the arrival of more advanced weapons, says Budanov.

Earlier in December, there were reports of several Russian military setbacks on the battlefield in Ukraine.

It has also been reported that Russia is planning a new ground offensive in early 2023, which could be another attempt to capture Kyiv. However, this information is dismissed by Kyrylo Budanov, who refers to the fact that a train full of Russian soldiers, which was recently transported to the Ukrainian border in Belarus, was sent back after a few hours.

    – They made it open during the day so that everyone could see. At the moment, I see no signs of preparations for an invasion of Kyiv or the northern areas from Belarus, he says, to the BBC.
