After Mats Löfving’s death, criticism has been directed at the national police chief Anders Thornberg. He has so far not wanted to comment on the criticism, but now says that he does not see that he could have acted in any other way than what he did, in an interview with TV4.

    – We have acted based on the Police Authority and appointed our own investigation, so we have acted in the way we could, Thornberg says in the interview.

When asked why he cannot say anything about his own actions, Thornberg replies:

    – Among other things, for it to be looked at by the Work Environment Investigation, but I also said that I think we have done what was reasonable and that we could not have acted in a different way.

The Swedish Work Environment Agency must also present its report on work environment conditions in May.

When asked if Thornberg understands that he is perceived to have dodged questions about the investigation, he replies:

    – Yes I have. I have great understanding of that. It has had an extremely tragic outcome which is terrible. We have had grief in the Police Authority, there are relatives who have been hurt and we ourselves in the Police Authority have taken this very hard.

He is also asked if he has considered resigning.

    – I focus on my mission every day with full force. It is important in this difficult situation with the development of crime and other things that Sweden is safe and secure, so I am working on it until further notice, says Thornberg to TV4.

Samples are also taken in the animal stables, but the results of these tests are not yet ready and it is therefore unclear whether there is any spread of infection there right now, according to P4 Kalmar.
